More Like ‘Home’

Finally, we’re getting to the more exciting stuff in our home renovation project!  To update you on our progress…

The new electric, plumbing, and heating + cooling system have been installed, wood flooring to patch/match the original stuff has been laid, insulation and drywall have been put in and up, and some of the more fun, final decisions are being made!  At this point, we are getting closer than we have ever been to moving into our home, which is exhilarating.

For Kiley and I, it doesn’t feel like ‘just a house’ anymore, but more of a ‘home’ now that the actual walls are up and interior details are coming together.  A couple of weeks ago we realized that for the first time, we had actually been able to feel the layout and flow when we walked in the door, and it was fantastic.  We were worried that the layout we ended up creating for the home wouldn’t feel as original as we wanted, but it feels like it was always meant to be!

This week, we painted the wooden awning above our front door, laid tile, finished all of the trim work, and installed built-in shelves throughout the home.  We’re super thankful for the team at One Construction, who have been fantastic throughout this entire experience, and have guided us through each and every aspect of this renovation.

A quick list of next steps for the following 3 weeks include:

  • painting the drywall and trims
  • staining/finishing the hardwood floors
  • installing the thermostat
  • painting the interior doors and installing the exterior front door
  • installing the electrical outlets
  • finishing touches on dozens of other tiny things

Today, we are approximately 3 1/2 weeks away from our desired move-in date! This means that we should be in our new home within days of the day we first went to visit it for the first time (late February 2016), and also around the time of our 2nd wedding anniversary!

There is still a lot of work to be done, but we are thrilled to be getting closer and closer each day and each week to living in our first house together and making new memories there for however long we are meant to.
